Bicyclist Injured In DE Hit And Run Tuesday Morning

FRANKFORD, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are currently investigating a hit and run near Frankford that sent a bicyclist to the hospital with serious injuries.

Around 6:40 AM Tuesday morning, Police say Wayne Blanks Jr. was bicycling Eastbound on the improved shoulder of Omar Road, just west of West Road, when an unknown vehicle approached from behind and struck him with the passenger side mirror. Police say the vehicle did not stop after the collision; it continued Eastbound on Omar Road.

According to reports, Blanks was thrown from the bicycle and into a wooded area near the roadway.  Investigators say his bicycle was equipped with a rear light that was set to flash.

Police say the vehicle yet to be identified.

Blanks was reportedly airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition.
