SALISBURY, Md. - Relief is on its way for Wicomico County Residents suffering from the heat. County Executive Rick Pollitt, with the support of Health Officer Lori Brewster and the Department of Emergency Services, has announced the opening of a cooling center to operate from July 17th through July 19th.

Officials say the cooling center will be open 11 AM to 8 PM at the Wicomico County Civic Center in Salisbury. Residents will need to bring their own food, beverages, and medications. Authorities say no pets will be allowed in the cooling center.

For those of you over 50 who need shelter from the scorching heat, the MAC Senior Center, located at 909 Progress Circle in Salisbury, will also be opened July 17th through July 19th. Officials say residents don't need to be affiliated with the MAC center in order to use the cooling center. The hours of operation for the center have been extended until 8:00 PM.

Officials say anyone needing free transportation to the Civic Center or the MAC Senior Center should call Shore Transit at 443-260-2300.

For local and updated cooling center information, facts on heat related illness, or additional tips on how to stay cool, authorities say residents should call 211, or visit the Wicomico County Health Department's website at www.wicomicohealth.org or www.facebook.com/wicomicohealth.
