DELAWARE - U.S. Senators Chris Coons, Jack Reed, and Sheldon Whitehouse have introduced the Family Engagement in Education Act, in order promote effective family involvement strategies and programs at the national, state, and local levels.

Research reportedly shows that increasing parental engagement in schools enhances student success in the classroom, improves attendance, and reduces the dropout rate. The act will double education resources to $290 million, which could include statewide family engagement centers, to both continue and enhance the work of the Parent Information Resource Centers.

The  Family Engagement in Education Act has also been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Representatives Glenn Thompson and Carolyn McCarthy.
