Appalachian Power Not Seeking Fuel Rate Hike In VA

Posted: Updated:

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Appalachian Power says it's not seeking to increase what the utility charges Virginia customers to recover its fuel costs.

The company says it filed a request with the State Corporation Commission on Friday to leave the fuel rate the same.

Virginia law allows power companies to bill its customers for the cost of coal and other fuel used to generate electricity and the power the utility company buys.

Appalachian Power is proposing to keep the rate that's been in place since June 2012 at less than three cents per kilowatt-hour. The proposal is subject to approval of state regulators.

Appalachian Power serves about 500,000 customers in Virginia.
