Pocomoke City Police Warn Of Phone Scams

Posted: Updated:

POCOMOKE, Md. - Pocomoke City Police are warning the public about a phone scam, in which an anonymous caller demands money and information, saying that a loved one is in danger. They say at least four cases have been reported in a span of three to four weeks.

Salisbury police issued a similar warning last week, and Pocomoke officials say it may be the same group, or a new group putting a twist on the scam, with the caller knowing personal information about the victim they contact. Most of the calls are through a blocked or restricted number.

Police say to not give out any personal information, and they recommend that you first call and make sure the family member is safe, then contact police immediately at 410-957-1600. If possible, they are asking victims to find out more personal information on the caller, such as a contact number, to help with the investigation.
