VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach fire officials say a fireworks accident caused the death of a man whose body was found near the Oceanfront.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Amy Valdez tells media outlets that the man was attempting to launch illegal fireworks on the beach when a projectile hit him.
The state medical examiner's office identified the victim as 42-year-old Jim Engelhardt of Virginia Beach. The cause of death was an explosive injury to the head.
The accident occurred Saturday. Engelhardt's body was found Sunday morning.
