Wicomico Library, Where Art & Literacy Converge

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - It's summertime and *reading* might be the last thing on the minds of kids across Delmarva -- but one local church is trying to change that.

Remedy Church, based in Salisbury, was out at the Wicomico Public Library Saturday, for a second shot at painting a mural of children's books along the library's wall.

The project was commissioned by the library, and approved, last fall by the Salisbury Historical Society.

Organizers say they hope it gets kids and adults interested in art and reading.  "What we really want to do is we want to see art and literacy converge together in the city of Salisbury, says Holly Thompson, a member of Remedy Church, "we love murals, we love art, we love this city, I'm an English teacher, so I really support literacy...support kids reading."

The mural is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.  The next step is for artists to come in and paint horizontal books, and then decorate them to look like the famous children's books inside the library.

If you're interested in finding out how you can help with the project, contact Remedy Church.
