Salisbury Police Warn Of Threatening Phone Scam

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A local police department is warning of an alarming new phone scam. Salisbury Police say they are investigating, after a number of residents have received phone calls from a man, demanding money, while threatening to kill a loved one.

The phone number is blocked, and the man usually has person information about the family member. Police say the suspect tells the victim that the loved one will be held hostage, or that they were involved in a car accident, and that they need money wired to Puerto Rico, to save them.

If you receive a call similar to this, Police suggest speaking with family members to ensure their safety, and then contact Police immediately. Don't give any personal information or money to the caller. Try to get a phone number, or information from the caller.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Salisbury Police at 410-548-3165 or Crime Solvers 410-548-1776. Crime Solvers is offering a $1,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
