Local Businesses Participate In Meal Rally For OCPD

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md -In response to the plane crash earlier,  local businesses in Ocean City are offering their support to the Police Department.

Kathy Jacobs, director of community relations for Brandywine Senior Living at Fenwick Island, made calls to many different local businesses asking for support to OCPD.

"When it first happened, my heart went out to them. I didn't know the officers who died. I know friends of friends who have been touched by it but not directly. In family, when someone passes, that's what you do. The family and friends are in churches, rallies and I decided to take that concept and bring it to the police department,"

Jacobs also says that she could not have done what she's doing without the support of the community.

"I have received phone calls from restaurants as well as local business owners. I had a hotel say 'look, I don't make food her but can I order food from a restaurant and have it delivered?' and I said absolutely!"

As for the Ocean City Police Department, they say they are fortunate to have such a caring community.

"I've been here for 25 years and every time there's a major event or crisis, this community just jumps right into support, whatever operations that are going on. It's been amazing for us, the kind of reception we're getting from our community in regard of the support. Thank you very much, everybody that is helping," says public affairs officer Mike Levy.

Some of the local businesses that gave out support to the OCPD included Seacrets, Mug & Mallet, General's Kitchen, The Original Greene Turtle, Atlantic Bed & Breakfast, Lombardi's Pizza, Billy's Sub Shop, Ponzetti's, Sea Hawk Hotel, JR's Ribs and Desserts by Rita.
