PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - One local university is putting out their cigarettes for good.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced that it is now officially a smoke-free campus. Smoking is prohibited for visitors, employees and students on all facilities, grounds and properties, including walkways, parking lots and vehicles.

But there will be a minimal numbers of designated smoking areas, which officials say will be determined at a later date.

"The idea is to maintain a healthful environment for all," said Lisa Johnson, UMES human resources assistant director. "In keeping with the rend across the nation, we certainly are hopeful that being a smoke-free campus can be viewed by many as an attraction."

The campus community will have access to on-site classes to help people quit, along with lists of resources and online health and wellness information.
