New Smoke Detector Laws In Maryland

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - A new smoke detector law takes effect in Maryland, starting July 1st. The state is asking Marylanders switch from standard, battery operated smoke detectors, to the new 10 year sealed-in batter detectors. Officials with the State Fire Marshal's office say they understand that a smoke detector can go off during seemingly unnecessary times, like when toast has burn in the kitchen, or the battery is low, so the "sealed-in" battery detectors will feature a "hush" button, allowing the detector to be disabled for a short period of time.

The office of the fire Marshal recommends people purchase the new detectors by July 1st.
