UPDATE: Alleged Armed Barricade Subject In Custody

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN-WYOMING, Del. - After nearly four hours of apparently locking himself in his home, a barricade subject is now in Police custody.  Delaware State Police say the 31-year-old man willingly exited the Wynsome Boulevard home, without incident, around 4:20 PM on Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, officials went to the house after getting calls about an armed man threatening to hurt himself, but when police arrived on scene, he fled into the house and barricaded himself inside.

The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and Conflict Management Team was able to make contact with him, and eventually convinced him to surrender.

A spokesman for State Police says the incident was not the result of a domestic dispute, and no one else was in the home with the man at the time.

The peaceful ending, to the barricade is an outcome authorities work towards:

"We'll use all means that we can to avoid that by establishing good communications, good report with the subject inside and try to negotiate a peaceful surrender."

WMDT asked if the suspect had any prior history of mental illness, but police said they didn't have that information.

The man was taken to kent general hospital for evaluation, and residents were safe to return to their homes on Wynsome Boulevard.
