Sand Replenishment Completed At Sandbridge Beach

Posted: Updated:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says it has completed a sand replenishment project in the Sandbridge section of Virginia Beach.

About 2.2 million cubic yards of sand were added to the shoreline to repair damage from Hurricane Sandy.

The federal agency says the project began in March and covered about 5 miles. The Sandbridge section of Virginia Beach is in the southern end of the city and primarily consists of vacation home rentals. The shoreline there has been damaged by several major storms and hurricanes in recent years. The bureau says a newly reinforced berm will help protect public infrastructure from severe storms.
