MARYLAND - U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland has announced a grant program to help develop the infrastructure of rural communities.
This means about $1.7 billion in loan and grant programs will be invested in more than 900 rural areas nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant program was created to improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. According to the Senator, in 2012, Maryland communities benefited from $12,625,300 in water and sewer grants and loans.
The grant includes upgrades to water and sewer systems. The bill now moves to the Senate floor for a vote.
