DE Police Investigate Decomposed Body Found In Lincoln Woods

Posted: Updated:

LINCOLN, Del. - An afternoon hanging out in the woods took a very disturbing turn for three Lincoln teens on Tuesday afternoon.

The boys happened upon a decomposing body, in a dim wooded area, near the 8200 block of Front Street.

Police said the body was too decayed to determine age, gender, or a possible cause of death, but they did find some clothes near the scene, which they plan to investigate.

"We'll continue our investigation with those items as well to determine where they came from, the year or make of the model the sneakers were made, if they were new, old," said Corporal Gary Fournier.

Despite that there are only being a few details about the body that was found in the woods, some locals said they still have an eery feeling.

"You just don't think of that, that there's a body, especially in your back yard, so it's kind of scary," said Judy Swain, who lives right across the street from where the body was found. "In the town of Lincoln you just don't expect stuff like that."

The remains found near the stream have since been removed and transported to Wilmington to be examined for evidence. Police are currently looking at DNA and dental records, along with missing person records. However, some locals said they do not know of anyone that went missing.

Police said they predict that the investigation will take a considerable amount of time.
