Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - An armed standoff between Police and a Dover woman, ends peacefully, in the early morning hours of Monday. Dover Police say around 12:15 AM, they responded to an Evergreen Drive home, after a woman left the hospital, before being evaluated.

Officers say, when they tried to talk to her, the woman barricaded herself in the house, and told them she had a gun. Dover Police called in their Special Operations Response Team and Hostage Negotiation Team teams, while officers told the other residents in the area to stay inside their homes.

According to the report, the 48-year-old woman came out of her home on several occasions, holding a handgun, threatening to hurt herself, and asking Police to shoot her. Police say a member of the HNT was able to get her to put down the gun. SORT then took her into custody.

She was taken to Bay Health Medical for evaluation. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed by Police. Dover Police did recover the handgun.
