Posted: Updated:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Hampton Roads Transit is holding public workshops on a proposed extension of mass transit to Naval Station Norfolk.

Media outlets report that the first workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Blair Middle School in Norfolk. The other meetings are scheduled for Monday at Granby High School and next Wednesday at the Hilton Norfolk Airport.

HDR Engineering has been hired to determine the best method to provide mass transit to the base, either light rail or expanded bus service.

The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission has said 80,000 vehicles enter and leave the base daily.
