OCEAN CITY, Md. - In honor of a former captain, lifeguards ran and swam the entire length of Ocean City on Sunday morning.
More than 80 current members, alumni, and family members of former Beach Patrol Captain George Schoepf relayed a steel rescue buoy up and down the shoreline. They started on 7th Street and ran on the beach to the Inlet.
Then, lifeguards swam into the ocean up to the Delaware State line, finally running the buoy back to the starting line on the beach.
Beach Patrol says it took five hours, and twenty four minutes to finish the course.
