DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Saturday night, north of Dewey Beach.

Police say around 8:50 PM, Garabed Zakarian was walking with two dogs across Coastal Highway, just south of Old Bay Road. According to reports, when Zakarian stepped into the right lane, a Jeep Wrangler traveling Southbound hit him. Officials say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the dogs Zakarian was walking ran off after the accident. Officials say both dogs have since been located and they are reportedly uninjured.

Reports say the driver of the Jeep was R. Brandon Jones. Police say he was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.

Troopers say they are still investigating the incident, and want to remind pedestrians to use caution and safety when walking on or near roadways.
