SALISBURY, Md. - David Bruce Monroe, 57, of Salisbury, MD passed away June 5th 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. David was born March 22, 1956 in Walton, New York. He graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1974, University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1987, and Salisbury University in 2003.
David is survived by his wife Caroline of 25 years, daughter Lauren Nicole Monroe, son Vance Jonathan Monroe, daughter Shannon Colleen Monroe, son James Ian Monroe, mother Jean Robertson Monroe, brother Hugh Igor Monroe, sister Donna Jean Monroe Carey, brother Christopher Dana Monroe, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. David was preceded in death by his father George Edward Monroe. David was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, coach, and friend to all.
David served as a Heavy Duty Equipment Specialist in the United States Army from 1974 to 1978. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany. He was a member of the Snow Hill American Legion. David loved coaching basketball and teaching at North Dorchester High School. As a coach, Mr. Monroe was a father figure to his players…and a winner. His highlight was coaching North Dorchester to a regional and state title in 1999. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time in the outdoors.
Visitations will begin at 10:00am at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church at 217 Beaglin Park Salisbury, MD with a service celebrating his life to follow at 11:00am on Saturday, June 8, 2013. In lieu of flowers, David requested that donations be made to the North Dorchester Boys Basketball Uniform Fund.
