Runners Hit The Pavement To Help Maintain War Memorial

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. -- Dozens laced up their shoes and hit the pavement to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Runners lined up at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center bright and early Monday, for the first ever Run to Remember 5K. All the proceeds go to benefit maintenance and upkeep of the Wicomico County War Memorial.

Right now the War Memorial Committee has an account at the Community Foundation, and is looking to grow that account in future years.

"They're trying to build that account so that there will always be money to maintain the memorial. It's expensive to replace the flags," Organizer Tammy Taylor tells us,

"We hope we don't have to but if we do have to add another name to the wall then we have to get new bronze plaques for that," she goes on to say.

We're told they raised around 5 hundred dollars, and are looking to make this an annual event.
