Bennett Principal: Very Proud Of Khaled Mohamed

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Friends, classmates and teachers will be able to watch and cheer on Khaled Mohamed as he competes this week at Scripps National Spelling Bee.

ESPN will be broadcasting the finals and streaming it online.

WMDT caught up with Bennett Middle School principal Liza Hastings who says she's proud of Khaled no matter how he does. But the number of hours of studying speaks volumes of his work ethic that she hopes will push him far into the tournament.

"It brings great recognition to Bennett Middle [School] and Wicomico County," said Bennett Middle principal Liza Hastings. "It shows that we are a great school system, that our teachers all work hard and that our students rise to the occasion. It's going to being some publicity to the county.

"I'm very proud of Khaled, as well as all of my students at Bennett Middle. I'm proud because he set a goal and he is achieving that goal."

Khaled will take a computer based test on Tuesday for a chance to advance to Round Two on Wednesday.
