SALISBURY, Md. - Beverly Sewell Cockey, 83, of Salisbury, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Chester, MD, she was the daughter of the late Capt. William "Buck" Sewell and Sarah "Sally" Jones Sewell. She was an alumna of St. Mary's College, where she graduated as valedictorian, and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury, where she served as secretary for the Board of Trustees. She worked at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for 23 years, retiring in 1994 as an administrative assistant to the Vice-President for Advancement. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge with her friends and family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Ralph Ringgold Cockey; a son, Robin R. Cockey and his wife, Amber of Tyaskin; 4 grandchildren, Rose Brennan Cockey, Elijah Ringgold Cockey, Isabel Eaves Cockey and Guinevere Elizabeth Cockey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Orville Sewell.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 406 N. Division St., Salisbury, MD with a time of calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Rob Townsend and Rev. Dr. Daniel Rich will officiate. Interment will be private at Wicomico Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in her memory to Bethesda UMC.
