Bennett Middle Student Prepares For National Spelling Bee

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - In just a few days, one local seventh grader will vie for a chance to win this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Khaled Mohamed won the inaugural UMES Spelling Bee two months ago, becoming the first Bennett Middle School student to make it to nationals. Since then, he's been hard at work, studying definitions, origins and, of course, the correct spellings of nearly 9,000 words.

"I have just been trying to read [the entire Webster's Dictionary]," said Mohamed.  "I can't memorize that, but just trying to see what I can get and look at how words are created [before I head out to the Scripps National Spelling Bee."

Stay tuned on Sunday night to watch more on Khaled's preparation in his quest to be crowned the Scripps National Spelling Bee Champ.
