CAPTAINS COVE, Va. - Richard A. Olson, 82 of Captain's Cove, Virginia, died on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City, Maryland, following a short battle against cancer. Born August 19, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Leonard and Dorothy Thompson Olson. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he joined the Navy at the age of 17 and faithfully served for 30 years in Korea and Vietnam, aboard two different aircraft carriers, retiring in 1967. He was a member of Lynnhaven Baptist Church, a past member of the Pocomoke Kiwanis Club and he had a great love of fishing.
He is survived by his first wife and the mother of their five children, Betty Olson of Milwaukee, WI; his present wife, Renate of Pocomoke City; five children, Donald, Douglas, Dawn, Diane and Dwayne; two brothers, Leonard Olson and his wife Gloria, Ramon Olson and his wife Gerri, three sisters, Barbara Jones and her husband George, Jackie Klempke and her husband Dickie and Donna Byrd and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Interment will be private in the veterans' cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
