Worcester Co. Road To Be Named For Solider

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER CO., Md. - Worcester County Commissioners invite the public to attend a Memorial Day dedication of a county road for a local fallen soldier.

The road will be named after Worcester County native and 1983 Stephen Decatur High School graduate, Samuel Robert "Smokey" Bowen, who died July 7, 2004 in Iraq.

The first phase of Samuel Bowen Boulevard runs for about three quarters  of a mile from the intersection of Holly Grove Road and Route 50. Once the second phase is complete, it will parallel the highway from Holly Grove Road to Seahawk Road, helping divert traffic off the major roadway.

The dedication ceremony will take place at Samuel Bowen Boulevard's southeast intersection Monday, May 27 at 2:00 PM.
