WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police say a Wilmington man was critically injured when his car collided with the SUV of a fire department official headed to a house fire.
Cpl. Mark Ivey says the lights and siren were activated on the marked departmental SUV when it crashed Wednesday night. He says the battalion chief's SUV was headed west on West Second Street when it hit the car traveling south on North Harrison Street.
Ivey says the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, was trapped in the wreck for a time and was flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.
Police declined to identify the battalion chief, but Ivey says he was not injured.
The crash is under investigation.
