SUSSEX Co., Md. - It appears the Sussex County budget is looking bright, thanks to local real estate - the county's largest source of income.
Officials are budgeting for $16 million in revenue for Fiscal Year 2014, and we're told that's a conservative number considering an uptick in the local housing market. Officials say they may actually see as much as $18 million in real estate transfer taxes this year, so that could mean a $2 million surplus.
We're told the money will be used to help fund public safety, capital projects and economic development, but most of it will go towards paramedics and the emergency operation center.
