Del. Officers Honored For Courage During Shooting

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Police officers who were working in the New Castle County Courthouse during a fatal shooting in February have been honored for their courage.

The recipients were Lt. Marshall Martine, Sgt. Michael Manley, Cpl. Arlene Redmond, Cpl. Steven Rinehart, Cpl. Scott Simpson, and Senior Security Officer Darryl Smith. Other officers received awards for outstanding service and performance.

Gov. Jack Markell attended the ceremony at Central Middle School in Dover. He says the officers "protected the lives of others while putting their own lives at risk."

On Feb. 11, Thomas Matusiewicz shot and killed his former daughter-in-law and another woman at the courthouse. He took his own life after a shootout with police.
