DELMAR, Md. - (AP/WMDT) - Powerball is a game of numbers and lottery officials say the majority of possible combinations have already been purchased ahead of Saturday night's near-historic $600 million drawing.

The odds of winning the game's largest jackpot remain astronomically high: 1 in 175.2 million.

But since about 80 percent of the possible combinations have been purchased, lottery officials say it's likely the winning ticket could be selected.

People lined up at gas stations and convenience stores Saturday for their chance at striking it rich.

"I'm going to spread it all over the world, traveling, give it to friends, family, church members," said Rose Fraser of Delmar.

Lisa Parks, manager of Boulevard Beer and Wine in Delmar, Md.  says the store has sold more than 150 Powerball tickets since Friday night. She says the hype locally is even larger than November's $587.5 million jackpot.

"We have had local winners at our other store," said Parks. "We had a $1 million winner off of a scratch off, so people know they can do it and if they think they got that chance, then of course they're going to spend that money."

Whoever has the winning ticket would take home a lump sum of just over $375 million after taxes.

The latest jackpot is the world's second largest overall, just behind a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot in March 2012.
