U.S. Coast Guard Readies For Boat Safety Week

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - As businesses prep for the busy summer season , so is the U.S. Coast Guard.

With more boats on the water, they want vacationers and residents to continue to use safe practices. In the Coast Guard's most recent statistics, Maryland was the fourth in the nation for boating accidents.

"We typically get the calls anytime, it's really completely random," said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Ofc. Robert Walsh. "We can get them in the afternoon and evening, but we're always ready to respond and tackle any types of calls."

This week is national boat safety week, you'll see Coast Guard crews on patrol, keeping an eye on recreational boats and promoting safety throughout the Eastern Shore, emphasizing the importance of life jackets.
