Larry Dale "Butchie" Brittingham

CAPTAINS COVE, Va. - Larry Dale "Butchie" Brittingham, 63, suddenly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 6, 2013, at his Captains Cove, Virginia residence. Born in Greenbackville, Virginia on January 6, 1950, he was the son of Clayton and Margaret Mumford Brittingham of Salisbury. Butchie was a proud Marine who served his country from 1967 to 1970, including two tours in Vietnam. He was especially proud to have served at the White House and as a guard to President Nixon. He married his soul mate and love of his life, Paula Edwards Brittingham, on February 13, 1994.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by five children, Tara Brittingham and fiancée Brian Ross of Delmar, DE, Amy Brittingham of Salisbury, MD, Erin Brittingham and fiancée Al Merritt of Salisbury, MD, George Coddington and wife Tammy of Calvert City, KY, and John Coddington and fiancée Tiffany of Bridgeville, DE; one brother, Michael Brittingham and his wife Jeanne of Parsonsburg, MD; one sister Betty Lou Howard and her husband Carey of Chincoteague, VA; 13 grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Andrew, Justin, Tommy, Michael, Mary, Kayla, Alex, Jamie, Sarah, A.J., and Evan; special cousins, Gary and Toni Crowley and Jim Wayne and Linda Crowley and six nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. James "Jimi" Nock, will be held Saturday, May 25th at 2:00PM at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either, the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058, the Greenbackville Vol. Fire Dept., 1479 Stockton Ave., Greenbackville, VA 23356 or the Oak Hall Rescue, P.O. Box 128, Oak Hall, VA 23416.
