Family Wants To Raise Awareness For Cystic Fibrosis

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, De - 10 Month Old Cyrus Bowers has been living with Cystic Fibrosis since he was born. While it may be a tough adjustment, one of the biggest concerns from the family is raising awareness of the disease.

"Cystic Fibrosis is a disease where your glands in your body produce thick secretion instead of thin ones. This can involve a lot of organs in the body. The main ones you think of are the lungs but it can also impair your ability to absorb food, and affects your sweat glands," says pediatrician Jose Alvarado.

"It's a serious life or death situation. it's just something yo can not avoid. If someone has it, these treatments must be done or it can be very fatal very quickly," says Nathaniel Bowers, the father of Cyrus.

Nathaniel says that one becomes accustomed to having a child with Cystic Fibrosis. He says that Cyrus requires three capsules of Creon 6000 everyday right before he eats everything, and that's every meal.

The Bowers also say that one of the things residents can do is attend the Salisbury Great Strides Walk on Sunday May 19th at Pemberton Historic Park at 12:00 PM to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.
