Salisbury Kidney Walk Raises $37K

SALISBURY, Md. - Locals raced towards a cure for a deadly disease.

Hundreds of survivors and donors turned out for the 2013 Salisbury Kidney Walk at Winter Place Park in Salisbury.

Kristy Ferracci donated her kidney to her husband on March 8, 2007.  Ever since then, she says, there hasn't been many issues.

"His labs are stable [and there are] no problems," said Ferracci. "He was able to go back to school and get his college degree in social work."

This year, Sharon Hurley, who spent the last 25 years of her life fighting Polycystic kidney disease, finally received a kidney.

"Oh my gosh, it's my miracle," said Hurley of her Aug. 15th, 2012 transplant. "It's so different now after being sick for 25 years.

"Not being sick anymore is just so wonderful."

The walk raised more than $37,000 and all donations and proceeds will go towards the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland.
