Local Farm, Winery For New Summer Cider

Posted: Updated:

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. -  Everything is peachy for a local farm and winemaker in Sussex County.

T.S Smith and Sons Farm and Great Shoals debuted their new Blazing Star Hard Cider Friday.  After the success of the Black Twig Cider, they were inspired to create something unique for the summer.

Matt Cimino, Wine Maker at Great Shoals Winery says "it's been almost a year in the making."

The new wine promotes local farming on the Eastern Shore and is expected to help economic growth.

"What we like about this product, I tell people it's summertime peach season in a glass," said Cimino. "We figured out a way to take a little bit of summer time, put it in a glass and add tiny bubbles."

The Cider with a sparkle blends ginger gold apples, blazing star peaches, which are both grown locally and wine. It's already creating buzz and got the attention of Sen. Tom Carper (D) and other political figures.
