MD State Archivist To Retire After 38 Years

ANNAPOLIS, Md.  - Maryland's state archivist is retiring after 38 years.
    
Edward Papenfuse said this week that he will retire Nov. 1.
    
The 69-year-old Papenfuse helped design the archives building in Annapolis that bears his name. He also spurred the creation of the archives website.
    
The Capital of Annapolis reports that he began his career at the archives in 1973. He has written books on Maryland history. Papenfuse has also been the acting city archivist for the Baltimore City Archives.
    
Plans have not been announced for finding a successor.
