SU Alumni Group Donates $8M Gift For Academic Commons

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A huge donation for Salisbury University means a brand new library on campus.

The university announced an $8 million gift from the Guerrieri Family Foundation. Scheduled to open in 2016, the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons will include a state-of-the-art library, research center and Wi-Fi cafe.

The gift was made in the memory of an SU alumna.

"My mother was a naturally curious person, who liked to do research things involving nature," said Michael Guerrieri of Guerrieri Family Foundation and son of Patricia Guerrieri, who building will be named after. "I know she'd be happy with this building."

University officials says the gift is one of the largest private donations for a capital project in campus history. The new building will take place of Caruthers Hall.
