SALISBURY, Md. - Imogene Brinsfield Bratten, age 85, of Salisbury died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Wicomico Nursing Home. Born on July 27, 1927 in Galestown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Percy Houston and Lillian B. (Wheatley) Brinsfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband Parker Brown Bratten; sister Hilda Jennings; sons Parker Blynn and Brian David Bratten; and daughter Estelle Holloway Bratten. Mrs. Bratten was a 1944 graduate of Hurlock High School. She received nursing credentials in 1947 from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and received a Bachelor and Master of Science in Psychology from Salisbury State College in 1983 and 1989 respectively. She worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Peninsula General Hospital and as a school nurse at Beaver Run and Glen Allen Elementary Schools for Wicomico County Public Schools. She later served as a community health nurse for Worchester County and retired as the Mental Health Director for the Somerset County Health Department. After retiring, she volunteered for the Mental Health Association of the Lower Shore, serving as Vice President of the organization and providing outreach through attendance at health fairs. Mrs. Bratten's pastimes included Sunday morning breakfast with friends and family, genealogy, reading, travel and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed traveling to visit her children, grandchildren, brother and nieces, as well as traveling by cruise liner to Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America. She was an active member of Zion Methodist Church and later Parsonsburg Methodist Church.
She is survived by one brother, Albert Brinsfield, Birmingham, AL; one son, Bruce Bratten and wife Jane, Hebron; four daughters, Linda Jayne McLaurin and husband Earl, Martinsburg, WV, Susan Anne Capute and husband Clay, Baltimore, Mary Kathryn Casey and husband Wayne, Round Rock, TX, and Cynthia Walsh and partner Linda Havilland, Gaithersburg; one daughter-in-law, Lynne Bratten, Salisbury; thirteen grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury on Thursday, May 2, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Graveside services will immediately follow.
