FRUITLAND, Md. - William Edgar Porter, Jr., 87, of Fruitland, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William Edgar Porter, Sr and Ruth Buhrman Porter.
He was a US Army Air Force veteran having served during WWII. He managed Stockton Light and Power Company in Stockton, MD for 17 years and worked for Wicomico County as a Zoning Administrator for over 20 years. He enjoyed playing as a professional musician for many years. He was a member of Christ U.M.C., American Legion and a life member of the Elks Lodge 817 and was a volunteer at P.R.M.C. for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Wanda Lee Parker Porter; 2 sons, William Edgar Porter, III and his wife, Amy and Christopher Lee Porter and his wife, Jill all of Salisbury; 5 grandchildren, Ryane, Raegan, Rowen, Gatlin and Westin; a brother, Robert W. Porter and his wife, Marian of Elkton; a mother in law, Eva P. Evans of Salisbury; a brother in law, Duane R. Bushey of Norfolk, VA; a sister in law, Jane Prause of Columbus, OH and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Ruth Bateman Porter; a sister, Jane Ruth Holloway; a step sister, Susan W. Bushey; and a step brother, Robert H. Prause.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with Rev. William Green officiating. There will be a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and also on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
