Break Time's Over: Salisbury Main Stay Closes After 13 Years

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - After 13 years as a business owner in Salisbury, Pat Scott is shutting his doors at Break Time Sports Grill and Pub.

With that, Scott says his 30 employees will now enter the job force looking for work.

"I guaranteed them I would find jobs in local community as fast as I could," said Scott.

But Break Time isn't the only restaurant to close shop this year. Three months ago, Zia's Italian Restaurant left town after 22 years.

Some owners say a bad economy hasn't helped them stay afloat, while other businesses are starting to thrive, like The Irish Penny.

"That's what happens with a lot of places that don't make it that have been around for years and years," said Jeff Trivitis. "You got to listen to your clients."

"Businesses open and close all the time, you know it could be the economy," said Andy Fantis.

Fantis is currently cleaning up and remodeling the old Fox and Olive, which closed last fall and starting up Andy's Place, which, according to Fantis, will be a family-friendly, fresh food restaurant.

"It's a scary thought, especially with the economy, but we do what we can," said Fantis.

As Scott packs up, he asks residents to keep supporting local businesses.

"[Residents] need to understand that every dollar they spend, much larger percentage stays in the community and helps support extra curricular activities for their schools for their kids.

"We as independents donate much more money."

Break Time will officially close after business on Saturday.
