UPDATE: Bomb Suspect In Custody, City Rejoices

Posted: Updated:

[12:15 AM UPDATE] - WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) - Celebrations erupted in Boston and beyond as the capture of the remaining marathon bombing suspect was announced in a tweet from police.

In the neighborhood where 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev engaged in a firefight with police while hiding out in a parked boat, dozens of people at a police barricade cheered and applauded as law enforcement officers and emergency responders left the scene.

Tsarnaev was taken to a hospital after his capture Friday night.

The jubilation was widespread. The mayor of Boston tweeted, "We got him!" And at the home of the New York Mets, fans leapt to their feet and cheered.

[9:02 PM] WATERTOWN, Mass. - ABC's Pierre Thomas reports suspect #2 in the Boston Marathon bombing is in custody.

A law enforcement official says the suspect was in a boat stored in a Watertown, Mass., neighborhood.

Authorities have told nearby residents to remain in their homes. Shots were heard in the area earlier.

The standoff came shortly after police announced that they were scaling back the hunt because they had come up empty-handed following an all-day search.
