Wicomico Co. Sheriff K9 Passes Away

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - A local sheriff's office has lost one of its four legged officers. The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office has announced that one of their long term K9 officers, Britt, passed away on active duty, after a short illness on Thursday. He was with his long time handler, Deputy First Class Dennis Taylor.

Britt, who was trained in explosive detection, and Taylor have been working together since 2003, protecting area buildings. The two often assisted neighboring jurisdictions, including Ocean City, Annapolis, and Dover Air Force Base. K9 Britt was also an ambassador to the community when groups visited the station.

Sheriff Michael Lewis said "We thank K9 Britt for all of his years of active duty service to the Sheriff's Office and he will be sorely missed."
