Despite Setback, Chincoteague Excited For Antares Launch

Posted: Updated:

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. - It looks like space fans will have to wait even longer for the big Antares launch.

Orbital Sciences announced on their Twitter page that the next launch attempt will be no earlier than 5 PM on Saturday. But the delays are not slowing down the excitement for local residents and businesses, who told WMDT before yesterday's attempt what Antares could mean in the long run.

"There are people all over the country who love to follow these launches and look at the crowds who used to go to [Cape] Canaveral," said a Chincoteague resident.

"Anything we can do to bring people here outside the summer season is fantastic," said Kelly Conklin, Island Creamery owner.

In a recent study, NASA Wallops says it brings nearly 3,100 and $396 million  to the area economy.
