Spring Golf Tournament To Fund Marian Colbert Memorial Scholarship

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - As we wrap up our weekly segment with the Delmarva Education Foundation, we bring you one final opportunity. DEF has partnered with Deer Run Golf Club in Berlin to host an event that would bring in cash for the ladies.

A brand new scholarship opportunity for female students on Delmarva, all in memory of Marian Colbert, a talented woman who knew her way around the greens at Deer Run Golf Club.

"My first wife who passed away from breast cancer, had a great passion for golf so I thought it was such a great honor to have a golf tournament in her name," said Ed Colbert, Owner of the Deer Run Golf Club.

With big shoes to fill, the student they're looking for must have at least a "B" average and live in one of the seven Lower Shore counties.

"Any student that's on a golf team at their school in any of those counties is eligible, public or private school," said Rota Knott, Executive Director of DEF.

At least one $500 scholarship will be awarded at the golf tournament on June 8th. If their $10,000 fundraising goal for the event is reached, they could offer more. Right now, officials say they're looking for sponsors.

"We're also looking for donors for prizes and silent and live auction items," said Knott.

15 teams, a total of 60 players, are needed for the event to be a success. So get your clubs out, and help be the driving force behind this opportunity.

Officials say the scholarship could be renewable, so the student awarded this year, could get the same amount next year. The deadline to apply is May 31st.

If You Go:

The cost to play is $100 per person, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, golf and cart, range balls, one mulligan per player, team prizes, hole-in-one prize, silent and live auctions, putting contest, cash raffle and more.

As a golf tournament sponsor at the $1,000 level, sponsors will receive a free team entry for 4 players, a 1/2 page advertisement in the event program, a sponsorship mention in all tournament marketing and a large professional hole sign posted on the golf course during the event. Additional sponsorship levels are also available.

To Register, Call Deer Run at 410-629-0060.
