First Lady To Attend Signing Of Veterans Bill

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama will join Gov. Martin O'Malley in Annapolis as he signs a bill designed to help veterans re-enter the workforce.

The Veterans Full Employment Act of 2013, passed by the Maryland General Assembly, creates an expedited licensing procedure for veterans and military spouses who hold professional licenses in other states.

The bill also requires Maryland's public colleges and universities to develop policies to award academic credit for relevant military training and education.

Obama on Wednesday will meet with service members who will be impacted by the new legislation before the bill signing at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The first lady has made military families one of her top priorities. Her Joining Forces initiative connects service members, veterans, and military spouses with resources to find jobs.
