POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Beulah Poole Baylis, 97, a lifelong resident of Pocomoke City, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Hartley Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pocomoke City. Born June 8, 1915 in Pocomoke City, she was the daughter of the late Clarence H. Poole and the late Mary Franc "Mamie" Pusey Poole Taylor. Her husband, Preston Lang Baylis preceded her in death in 1989. A graduate of Pocomoke High School, she retired from Citizens National Bank with many years of devoted service. She joined Salem United Methodist Church in 1925 and was the longest serving member of the church. "Ms. Beulah", as she was loving known, was a charter member and past president of Soroptimist International of Pocomoke City, a charter member and past treasurer of the Philathia Sunday School Class and a charter member and the first president of Hartley Hall, Inc. One of her most prized awards was the Pocomoke Kiwanis "Good Neighbor Award" that she received in 1988.
She is survived by two god-daughters, Beverly Fleming and Jolene T. Barnette and a multitude of friends from her church and community associations.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 15, at the Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private in the Salem United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to Hartley Hall, Inc., 1006 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
