Delaware Lawmakers Eye Same-Sex Marriage

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - State lawmakers have introduced legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in Delaware.
The bill was filed Thursday afternoon and will be the subject of a House committee hearing on Wednesday.
The legislation was filed a little more than a year after the state first began recognizing same-sex civil unions.
Gov. Jack Markell and Attorney General Beau Biden joined lawmakers and other proponents Thursday to express their support of the bill.
If passed, the new law would take effect July 1, after which no more same-sex civil unions would be performed, and existing unions would be converted to marriages.
Markell on Thursday reiterated his vow to sign the legislation, which has more than 20 co-sponsors, including one Republican, Rep. Michael Ramone of Newark.
