Police: Dad Left Child In Car, Went To Class

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark Police have arrested a man they say left his 3-year-old child in his car while he went to a class.

Officers say passers-by heard the toddler crying and banging on the car window about 1 p.m. Police say the car was locked and the windows cracked.

The passers-by had the child to unlock a door and called police.

The child was not injured. The Delaware Division of Family Services turned the child over to the child's mother.

Officers say the child's father, 32-year-old Rafig Gurbanzada of Newark, arrived at the car about 1:50 p.m. Police say Gurbanzada had locked the child in the car about 12:15 p.m. to attend class at the University of Delaware.

Gurbanzada is charged with reckless endangering and endangering the welfare of a child.
