POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Darson "Shorty" James Harmon, 66, of Pocomoke City, Maryland, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence after a courageous battle against cancer. Born, August 6, 1946 in Ocean City, MD, he was the son of the late Darson G. Harmon and the late Emma Johnson Harmon. A graduate of Snow Hill High School, he served in the Navy from 1964 until 1968 and retired in 2009 from the Worcester County Board of Education, where he had worked for 33 years in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Pocomoke Elks Lodge #1624, the Westover Moose, the Nassawango Country Club and the Winter Quarters Golf Club. Shorty loved all sports, but will be mostly remembered for his golf and softball talent.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley Hinman Harmon; one son, Kenneth Dwayne Harmon; three grand children, Amanda Sewell and her husband Kevin, Victoria Harmon and Charles Harmon; two great grandchildren, Landon Sewell and Luke Hill, all of Pocomoke City and he was anxiously awaiting two more great grandchildren in October and November. He also leaves behind a host of golfing friends.
An Elks memorial service, followed by a funeral service, will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10th at the Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to, Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
