Cambridge House Fire Ruled Arson, Officials Seek Public's Help

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - WMDT has confirmed from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office that Friday night's fire in Cambridge has been ruled arson.

A vacant home on the 800 block of Fairmount Ave in Cambridge  was set ablaze around 10:30 PM. First responders say the flames reached a home next door, damaging the side of the house and the attic.

Estimated damages for both homes add up to almost $200,000, and no injuries have been reported.

Officials say it's too early to tell whether or not Friday night's fire is related to the other three arsons in Cambridge which occurred on March 20 and March 26. The first fire on March
20 occurred at 617 High Street and involved a vacant two story single family dwelling. Damages to the structure are estimated at $90,000. The additional two fires occurring on March 26 involved vacant two story single family dwellings at: 601 Cross Street with estimated damages of $15,000 and 523 Cedar Street with estimated damages of $20,000. All four dwelling fires all have occurred in less than a half mile of each other.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal requests those living in the community and anyone passing through to contact investigators with any information about these incidents. Please contact the Lower Eastern Shore Regional Office of the State Fire Marshal at 410-713-3780 or the Arson Hotline at 1-800-492-7529.
